Passage Door Latch, Square Drive, Steel, Brass Finish

Constructed of steel and featuring a brass plated finish, these passage door latches are designed for indoor use only. They function with a spring-loaded square drive spindle, with a maximum width and height of 9/32 inch. These latches are specifically made for use with antique and vintage door hardware, with a 2-3/8 inch backset.

Each latch includes a latch strike and fasteners for installation. However, it is important to note that the door knobs, square spindle, and rosettes are not included and must be purchased separately. The square drive on this latch has both a 9/32 inch opening and a 1/4 inch opening, accommodating a maximum square spindle size of 9/32 inch.

It is important to mention that this item is not suitable for use on pre-bored doors with large, newer style door knob holes unless the doors are prepped accordingly. For installation, it is recommended to use a hardening filler to fill the 2-1/8 inch holes before mounting the rosettes. Products like Fix-It-All® and Bondo Body Filler® have been successful for some users, but caution should be taken to avoid damaging prefinished door surfaces during application and finishing.

To prevent the set screw threads from loosening, it is advised to apply a small amount of Loctite ThreadLocker 271® (purchased separately). The latch bolt, with a brass plated finish, features a square corner faceplate and can accept a 9/32 inch square spindle. It is designed for use on old style passage door locksets indoors, providing a secure and stylish solution for your antique or vintage door hardware.
